PYDT Friendly or Club Rules Game

These rules are optional. The Game Master can apply any rules they decide by listing in the description of their Game. The Game Master and players can administer their own game during play.

Friendly Game

A short no fuss version that you may delete anything you like. Copy the following template into a new game, adjust and go play.

* Not reloading for the purpose of tile or battle scouting.
* Great people outside of your territory must be escorted by, at least a scout.
* All player communication is public. No private pins. (Optional - keep or remove)
* Once an AI is in the game; players consider adding AI rules from the club rules.

Club Rules Game

Civilization has exploits. In some cases they are called cheats and some are annoying.

All players value the time they invest. So the aim is to keep the rules short and simple for a fair and fun game. Once familiar, it should become second nature.

Club rules and etiquette
To make it easier to version control, general rules are listed on this post. The template in the next post should be copied to the PYDT Game description field because the template allows for customising specifics such as diplomacy.

Etiquette

If you find yourself in a situation where you feel that someone is breaking etiquette, question them. I recommend privately at first. Be polite and hopeful you are wrong. Examples in the points below.

  • No reloads for the purpose of tile or battle scouting.
    (“How did you see my ambush?” Other player pins or shows their “scout” unit)
    (My entire force was surgically destroyed! Fishy.)

  • No meta-gaming: no trading favours in one game for favours in another; no taking out grudges from one game in another; etc. All games are self-contained.

  • Grounds for resigning. E.g. Your capital is captured, or 2/3 captured or all. To resign you first must declare in chat somewhere. Simply leaving begs others the question why. Especially if they don’t have the intel.

Exploits

  • Banned - Using an exploit (newly introduced?). In doubt? Ask in discord. People may not accept the “I didn’t know line.”

  • Un-killable Scouts
    Do not use great people / rock bands as sentries or scouts outside of your territory.
    Attacking a unit exposed by an un-killable scout is banned.
    Escort GP that need to be outside of your territory.

    Don’t forget you can usually transfer great people directly from one city to another.

  • No trading with the AI

  • No disaster relief

  • No pillaging of tiles for gold / faith / science / culture with city states or AI players or via loyalty flipping (exploit). Healing allowed (farms etc)

  • AI is in the game?
    The only city that can be captured from that point on is the capital. All others must be razed.

  • Ban on unrestricted city trading.
    City trade as part of a peace deal or loyalty is ok. Ask if unsure. Don’t exploit.

City states

  • No more than the default map size limit
  • No more than 1 capture, all others will be razed
  • No renaming of ex-city states

Diplomacy
PUBLIC - No private messages or pins. Every communication must be through a channel or the smack chat.
PRIVATE - you can go public if you want.

Denouncement
Casus belli is required to declare war.
Unless it is the ancient era or your civilization benefits from surprise wars.
Denounced players can use their Casus belli without waiting.
(Optional) banned - asking a player to declare a joint war in diplomacy.

In summary, it is up to you to determine how you want to play. You may change or delete any rules you like as long as it is clear in your game description. Scenarios are also a reason to change too.
