First round played and moving forward. Inca, Egypt, Canada, and Greece (A/I). Good luck!

Game started. Inca (player 1) Turn 1 played and sent to Egypt (player 2)

Playing with 3 human and 1 A/I players.

Game starting. 3 players out of 4 as of now. Need one more, then we can start (I think…)

I am new to Play Your Damn Turn, so please be patient while I navigate things.

Reverted the 4th spot to an AI player. I assume someone may take that over if they so wish. So as it turns out, 2 beginners and 1 old pro. May the deity of whatever pantheon you worship have mercy on us! Looking forward to this game, and so far (1 turn) the experience is good. Quite seamless in using the client.

If you mark the spot for substitution someone can jump into it.
Should automatically get tagged on the PYDT Discord channel.
Not sure if I am the old pro referred to but let me assure you I may have lots of turns on PYDT but I am a bang average Civ Multiplayer Player

Yeah, you are the old pro… surely you have learned something in all those turns!!! I have been playing Civ VI for only a couple years, mostly asynchronous play on Steam with a friend. Takes a couple months to play a game, but we play on average each about 2 turns a day. Not sure of pace of play on this one, but I see some of the games run a couple of years, but it shouldn’t be too bad with just 3 or 4 players. I don’t play solo anymore, as the AI seems pretty dumb to me, even on Deity settings, and my friend and I don’t go to war with each other, so if that is the primary way that non-AI players play here, I have some learning to do, and I will enjoy it…

Ha ha! Then you BOTH are pros in this game (compared to me). I just bought Civ 6 a couple of weeks ago, and still struggling with Emperor A/I solo play – LOL – to give you some idea of how bad I am. I used to be pretty good at multiplayer “Call to Power 1”, but I see now that Civ 6 is quite different than that. So if there is anyone to go easy on — it’s me!

HI Steve: you have played quite a bit in the last few weeks! Hope it sticks. It does help to have played a Sid Meier game of some kind, and there is a bit of a learning curve. There are tons of great resources though to advise on starting the Civ 6 game, how best to take advantage of your leader and civ, and how to move forward in religion, science, culture etc., and pathways to take on the tech and civics tree. If you are immersing yourself in the early time of your development, I would suggest checking those out. And the nice thing about turn based games in multiplayer settings such as this, is that you get to take as much time as you want with a turn, so can really investigate the particularities of your game position. You can micromanage if you want to. Hope you end up liking it. BTW, Zigzagals resources on Steam for each faction are very informative.

Oh, I see those “159 hours in the past two weeks” that you mentioned. Well, I did play some but not that much. I think it counts the time where I left the game open overnight on my computer… which I shouldn’t really get credit for. But thanks for the good advice! I’ll try to learn. I thought it was complicated enough at the Call to Power version – but now religion and culture really do count against you if you don’t pay attention to them (like I did in my first games – and LOST to both of those types of victories from the A/I – oops.)

 don’t leave your computer on unattended, your family may become better Civ6 players than you! So yeah, big learning curve with this game, hope you take the time. I do like to help other players in games I play, so any questions on how things work or you aren’t understanding something, just ask, or I can look up pertinent resources online and forward them to you. If you have played a couple games though, you should be somewhat attuned to the game. I am thinking in my case, it will be a big jump playing multiplayer, and I am looking forward to the experience.

Always happy to offer advice too

seems to have something wrong with this turn. It is going to Japan’s turn 3. Will see if I can Cancel turn??? If that doesn’t work Matt, do you know what to do? I did put a password on my last turn which I didn’t do my first turn, so wondering if that is the issue?

It worked, just saw something confusing. The turn opened with Japan’s picture, but it went to my civ. Didn’t notice that the last time. So I think all good. Is that how it normally works Matt? Also, I may as well ask about what happens with the passwords. I didn’t have to enter my password for this turn, which is what I was expecting as I assigned one last turn. Or is there a place to assign a game password somewhere else in my profile perhaps? Not sure how that works.

Found the answer: “There’s no need to, PYDT automatically sets random passwords for every other player but the current player.”

All fine!

Alright! Yes, I was wondering about those passwords that come up. Glad you explained what was happening. And alright, I will not let my daughters get near the game… unless, of course, they do.

And okay, question about how easily you both beat “deity” level on solo – how? I mean, how do you start out. I can share what I do, but it’s probably wrong. I usual settle on whatever tile the game starts out on, unless the terrain is really bad. Then build a warrior (no scout) THEN settler next. Then plop down and build warriors and slingers in expectation of the coming barbarians (which seem to always have about two camps on Emperor level) defeat the barbs with mass warrior and archers then move on directly to attack the nearest bragging (as usual) neighborly a/i player and begin taking as many cities I can get from them before settling in to build up what cities I have after that initial grab. Thoughts?

There is so much to this game, that it is hard to answer it simply. But here goes. Settle close to a river (helps with housing requirements) and resources within 3 tiles (distance the workers can work tiles). You are right with the early game for the most part, but exploration is critical in order to ascertain future city hexes and to meet city-states / other civs. And to get tribal village bonuses. So I think most go scout first (at least I do). Not absolutely necessary to build another settler right away I think, and I usually try to time it with getting to population 3 so you go down to 2. Another thing to think of is productivity for a city, so if you have good resources you want to take advantage of them with the workers. Also, at the start, don’t settle more than 4 locations as then there are amenity penalties. As for the city-states especially, trade with them as soon as you can, and at least AI opponents give tons of money for luxury resources I have found so you can take advantage of that. Also, you need to get your production of science, culture and religion going, so if you have access to that on any hexes, try to take advantage of that. But assigning works is based on your need. If you need production, then concentrate on that, but if you can afford to wait a bit, then get them working on the science and culture. That is for the early game, as there are all kinds of ways to gain all of those later on! As for the barbarians, try to take out their scouts asap, and before they return to their encampment, as then they spawn combat units and attack your cities. Hope that helps for a start.
