Hi all,
Hope you are able to read this, especially you @Donlooky and @gkappelm.
I have been considering writing something similar to the following already back in March but I have appreciated playing and continued to learn some life-lessons playing this round with you, so I waited.
Today, however, having just taken a state exam and being in the movement of adulting, and wanting to practice self- and other-respect, the life-lesson seems to be to inform you that I will discontinue playing here.
My reasoning now, as it was back then, is that I would have to play very foolishly from now onwards not to win this, considering that I am essentially controlling all of Eurasia and Africa and sending settlers to Oceania and am leading in all of the victory conditions almost to the point that I have more than both of you combined, which is easily the case for military already - and I am producing units in all of the 19 cities that I have right now and will do so in the 2 next ones that I am about to found as well. On top of this I am creating the Venetian Arsenal for naval conquest of Washington, which after London, would have been the single capital missing - on top of this I am creating the Hagia Sophia, Mahabodi Temple and have a mosque - that in combination with the 21 cities is almost certain religious victory as well.
Back in March it was not that clear with St. Petersberg still having its wall up and Birmingham being well-defended, if you @donlooky would have gotten wind of my attempted conquests, you might have rushed to their aid, tried to take Oceania yourself etc.
Until this last turn, I have considered just rushing it - taking London and then leading them with some frigattes to make an ambush on Washington. However, due to your formidable defense @gkappelm, this would take considerably longer another 15 turns maybe, however, the Trebuchet and Musketmen with Caravels are already on their way, so it’s almost certain that you will lose this - even if donlooky would support you.
And with the Venetian Arsenal, even knowing these warplans @Donlooky, I don’t see a way of how you would win this one…
With all that said, I am not familiar with your two’s culture around declaring victory based on prediction, but I will consider this a personal victory and give you my thanks for playing.
It has often - throughout these weeks - been a delight playing with you and I have tremendous respect for you for continuing to play every turn, even though it might have seemed hopeless, especially for you @ZaZa and you @banman39!
