Land of the Lost (0f128371)

Did we decide on any mods?

Yes, just been slowing down a lot. I’ll get there. Soon…ish.

No so I’ll probably just make a call on that I guess and launch it

Okay it’s up and rolling, I think I only had to shift one person to get it in order of timezones/preferred times. Pretty sure I did that right…manual!

Mr_6, I thought it would be good if you were before me…thinking you’re probably a bit more flexible…unfortunately the only way to do that in the order is to make you last. :frowning:

As for the game, I’ll put my hand up and admit I rerolled, pulled a mulligan on the first one. I was next to a one tile lake as Sweden on a tiny promontory of land, and the fresh water sites beside the lake were within reach of volcanic eruptions. That didn’t look like much fun. I thought about it for a bit, but…in the end…long term game, getting erupted on your cap from the beginning…? Seemed like too much.

Second time I rolled Mapuche, also near a volcano (there’s a surprise). Moved toward another promising spot, only to find…yep, another volcano.

So, uh, I guess it’s fitting the theme! First thing I’m doing is running from Volcanoes to try to find a decent home!!

Remember, at this disaster level, eruptions can extend two tiles from volcanoes.

Here’s a snip of the settings:

@Onanista asked me to forward this message to you:

Out for 1-3 days, apologies in advance. Please copy to Land of Lost thread for me, please.

See you in a few. No subs please!

Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Show of hands, who hasn’t settled yet?

:raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:t3:

EDIT: also interesting the difference in file size compared to our 4-player game here: this has two extra players and a map two sizes bigger, and the initial save(s) is 2-3 times as big!

Did some of yous get lucky and plant on turn one? I hope you don’t get hit by lava!!!

I settled First turn. I don’t remember it it was a good site or not.

I’m away and can’t take my turn for about 5-6 hours.

I settled first turn. No lava yet!

Kongo settled in place, surrounded by woods and rainforest. Did one of those mountains have a firey, smokey lip? I can’t recall. Regardless, alea iacta est! The Kongo shall take whatever fate might bring us.

I like how we all got some of the most ancient civilisations; fits the theme well.

EDIT: Okay, we’ve finally arrived at the place we’ll call home. Next turn, we start building.

The irony would be if that one mountain I can’t see behind the rainforested hill…is actually yet another volcano.

Okay, yep, as predicted: my cap is two tiles from a volcano. I wonder what the odds are every time it erupts? Two tiles away. First ring: 6 tiles, second ring: 12 tiles.

Does that mean whenever it erupts I’ll have a 1 in 12 chance of getting lava-nuked in my cap?

If any of you have dug into the code or just know…please…inform me of my fate!

The thing is, I couldn’t win–I spawned in the middle of three volcanoes. I think we ended up in a nice spot, even if it took a hundred years or so…

Fiery! :sob:

Onanista, it turns out that re-rolling could never save, for the Mapuche have a tier 3 start bias towards all types of mountains except snow mountains (ostensibly to provide high-appeal tiles for the placement
of Chemamuls), meaning you were always very likely to encounter mountains and volcanoes near your start.

Here’s a page that details each civ’s start bias. Be glad you didn’t roll Inca!

tl;dr
Mapuche tier 3 mountains (1 is top tier/high chance of allocation, 5 is bottom tier, low chance)
Greece tier 2 hills
Indonesia tier 2 coast
Phoenecia tier 2 coast
Sumerian tier 3 river
Kongo tier 2 rainforest/woods

So the game was always going to place Mapuche by mountains and volcanoes before placing anybody else there. Thanks for taking one for the team, Onan!

Bruh.

Solid work there. I’ve been looking at that wiki, but never seen that page. My suspicion is one of the developers, or a team of them wrote it, or contributed. I haven’t bothered to investigate–maybe it’s just fans. But the info is solid.

Okay, well–I’ll report back when my cap turns into Pompeii!

For now, well…we spotted a barb unit before we settled. Nice!! At least we’re no longer running scared. We’re just living scared, between three volcanoes and the barbarian hordes. We better find a good cave soon, or figure out where the Sleestaks keep their crystals!!

Volcano infodump

Right there :point_up:t2:

It sounds like you’re going to want to promote Liang to Reinforced Materials as soon as you can.
