I could see the relative numbers, but had no vision into where your troops were. I had the feeling that a lot of my surplus were ships, and so of limited use trying to take a continent. I took some cities there from the ai, but the time taken to move troops across was a stretch, and so building on the first landing ran out of steam. Given the rate at which you caught up and overtook, I assume that my initial captures on my own continent were bought by overproducing troops relative to building up my infrastructure, certainly in production.
