Smack talk goes here for Just another! Game URL: https://playyourdamnturn.com/game/8a21e8e3-66a1-4a84-a918-bb9df7df097d
Good luck. Hope you got a good starting position. Mine looks ok from what I can see so far. Going to have to do a lot of chopping. The last time I played Pericles was in July 2017. I have played Pericles twice and won both times. Once by conquest and once by cultural. Hope I keep up my streak!
I did have to restart the first game. Before uploading the save I saw that you were Hungary and figured you wouldn’t want to play them again right away. Kind of a bummer because I had the best starting position I have ever had. I was 3 different luxuries, a river, lots of grassland hills with woods, and a mountain range.
Sorry, PYDT doesn’t seem to register Smack Talk anymore so I didn’t see the message till now.
My start is pretty nice for Indonesia… lots of ocean and resources, but I am next to the Vikings and the Sumerians, so I guess I’ll have to actually try to be kind to the AI for a while.
I’ve only had success with Pericles myself… that wild card slot makes a lot of differrence. Good Luck!
This game is frustrating. I see a goody hut, but another civ grabs it before I do. I see another goody hut, but another civ grabs it before i do.
I have found one city-state but I wasn’t first.
Barb huts everywhere. Can’t build up as I have to focus on building units. Wish I was Sumeria to pop the barb huts.
Now I just met the Vikings, so we must be close.
Going to be a challenging game.
Hah… a couple of days later, and I’d say you’re doing fine.
Yes, my hoplites are very effective against the Aztecs. I was fortunate in that they attacked one of the city states 2 turns before I planned to attack them, so their army was out in the open. Their poor army was sandwiched between me and Preslav, so it didn’t last long. One more city and the Aztecs are gone.
What do you think of a general peace for the next 10 turns while we clean up our world? I was about to attack Bandar Brunai again, but I’ll hold off.
I’m proposing we make no more new polluting units (unless you’re like two turns away) upgrade where possible, and switch to more sustainable power if that’s an issue. It is with me, since I’m not a Digital Democracy.
I’m assuming you’re in the future side of the cultural tree… what does that look like? Just curious.
My world is clean. The only pillaging I need to take care of is from a volcano and I already have workers headed that way. The rising sea levels don’t bother me. However, 10 turns of a relative peace sounds fine to me. But if you move units to my cities I will take that as breaking the peace.
Don’t move towards Bandar Brunei, that will look like breaking the peace.
I won’t start making anymore pollution producing units. I have a few cities that are almost complete making pollution producing units. Once those are built, I will build non-pollution producing units if I can help it.
I’m deep in the future side of the cultural tree. I research a new future civic every 5 turns. Each new future civic grants me 1 governor title and 50 diplomatic favor. Plus, I can switch civics around. Other than that I don’t see any benefit.
Well, I think i’m going to have to concede this one… I’m sorry to pull out before complete victory, but you basically won this one about 100 turns ago. My summer has become super busy, and I was kind of expecting this game to be done a month ago. I’m sure you’ve noticed my turn frequency dropping.
That being said, this has probably been our most exciting game, and you have played every moment of it masterfully. Your early city state strategy was great… I mostly declared war to stop your influence, but was stunned by your sudden military supremacy.
If this game has shown us one thing, it’s that cultural victory is pretty much impossible against a human who is even half trying. If any civ should’ve won that one, it was yours!
I’m glad we managed our cold war as long as we did… it was fun to compete militarily without trying to wipe out the other player. We got to see environmental devastation and giant death robots!
Again, sorry I’m not taking it to the end, but I just don’t have time for such frequent and complicated turns right now. Things should ease up again in the fall if you want to start up another, but I’m not doing any new games til then.
Cheers… this was a good one!
That’s fine. I’m glad you stuck it out as long as you did. I figured you were either going to surprise attack me in a last ditch effort, or you were going to build nukes and try to take me out that way. Please surrender your civ so I can go full war and get the victory screen. I would like to see the graphs.
This game was indeed one of our most exciting, but I didn’t think that when it first started. My plan was to meet as many city-states first to get the free envoy, but I failed in that attempt. I thought for sure my plan failed for the first 50 turns or so. It was only pure luck the Aztecs attacked the city-states when they did, allowing me to capture all the Aztec cities easily and destroy their army out in the open. That was a game changer.
One thing I used to my advantage was becoming suzerian over all the city-states. I used that policy card (can’t remember the name) that allowed me to levy their military at 50% discount. Yes, my military strength jumped up but they were all weak units. I was a paper tiger until I could hard build my own strong modern units. I’m slightly disappointed in the Giant Death Robot. It is very strong on the offense, but you killed it too easily. I thought they were supposed to be invulnerable, but they seem to be very vulnerable. Definitely need to protect them. I guess that’s a good thing they can be killed, but it was still a surprise.
I thought we did great on the cold war. A little roleplaying in there made it fun.
I’m fine taking a break for the summer. I will get very busy at work during the month of June, and then I start a new job on July 1 so I will be working late for probably July and maybe August. Let me know when you are ready to start a new game. These 1v1 are some of the funnest games I have played.
