Netherlands vs. Poland. I can’t believe I rolled Netherlands and didn’t start near the water. Thought they always started near water.
Well, I’ve got water, but traditionally Poland doesn’t start lost in the jungle.
Looks like neither of us get Religious Settlements this time. And does Detailed Worlds have a default ‘Extreme Barbarian’ setting we don’t know about… come on!
I didn’t change the barbs or disaster level. But I have several barb camps and even barb horse archers around me. Not cool.
I only have 19.1 faith so not sure what pantheon I will get. Glad you didn’t get religious settlements though. Makes it fair if neither of us get it.
We could ban it for future games… does seem a bit of a leg up to whomever gets there first.
Sounds good to me. Ban it in future games.
But how did you know that I didn’t get it in this game? Maybe I found a religious city-state and got fast faith. Is there something in the game that lets you know who got what pantheon?
I got a relic on my first goody hut and got a pantheon pretty quick… like turn 14 or something, and I saw your faith production was at 1, so I just figured it wasn’t you.
But how do you know I’m only getting 1 faith per turn? Where do you find that in game?
Ah… It’s from a mod called Extended Diplomacy Ribbon. Gives you an HUD of some basic civ information. It’s stand-alone and doesn’t affect saved games. It won’t tell you stuff about AI civs you haven’t met, but does give some basics on human opponents. Sorry, I would’ve mentioned it if I thought you didn’t have it. I don’t think it’s given me an edge, but who knows?
Wow, that’s a cool mod! Even though you only have 1 city, you are doing great in gold, tourism, faith, and military might. I hope you are not next to me, looks like you are going to be another warmonger this game.
I’m going to try to balance economy, military might, and a dose of religion. Seems to play to Poland’s strengths, but even in games, I’m terrible with money. I’ve explored a bit, and we don’t seem close…
Yeah, the mod even alerts you when someone has resources you don’t, which is probably why I was always the first to offer lux trades.
I’m getting so sick of looking at Wilhemina’s smug face as the game loads up… “I have twice as much science as you, and you can’t figure out why…” she says. I hate her.
One of my problems is I don’t know what building to build in my government plaza. Should I build the Ancestral Hall or Warlord’s Throne? For my games I don’t build the Ancestral Hall. This is one game I regret not making that building. I have hard built so many cities, and I still have room to build so many more. If I could go back about 100 turns I would build the government plaza and the Ancestral Hall. As it is, I just now completed the Warlord’s Throne, something I should have done about 100 turns ago. Problem is I was hemmed in by a couple of AI and I wasn’t able to explore and see what was around me. Oh well, that’s civilization for you.
I have science because of rivers. Placing a campus next to a river gives +2 science. Add a couple of mountain tiles next to that and I have +4 science. Add a geothermal and I have +6 science Use the policy card and I have +12 science per campus. I have two cities sharing the geothermal. In Amsterdam I have Pingala and the researcher promotion. Sweet science.
Hah… I’ve got a bunch of absolutely useless campuses from Korea and Brazil that were placed for bonuses I don’t get.
But you are catching up in number of cities and population. Plus your military is larger than mine. I keep waiting for a flotilla of ships and a large landing force to attack my cities next to the Galapagos.
Mostly just building up forces because I choose the pantheon where you get 25% off ancient and classical units, and I don’t want to waste it. Expensive tho…
Well, I just took your Capital, but I’m wildly over-extended and you still have the larger army… this could be a comeback story.
I think I’m starting to realize that within strategy gaming at least, my alignment might be tending toward the evil side. Lawful Evil at best.
Welp, I hope to retake my capital. But you have lots of bombards there still that can wreak havoc. Time will tell…tomorrow because I"m going to bed.
We could probably call this one over… Good game!
I’m a little surprised you weren’t able to dig me out of your Capital, but then I didn’t see how the defensive bonuses looked from your side. I know with all the hills and jungle, that was a hard city to approach when it was defended by a single field cannon, let alone what I had there.
Fancy another? I’m going to be going back to work next week on reduced hours, so I won’t be able to play at quite the furious pace I’ve been keeping.
