Archipelago FFA no mods (e5f47d72)

Should be ok. Is it your first choice or are you ok for Pericles or Genghis Khan?

Manoir choose Amanitore

Yeah, I felt that wasnā€™t enough of a bonus to qualify for banning (not a unique unit or a prod/gold/culture bonus) on the basis of no naval bonuses. Whatā€™s everyone elseā€™s feeling on Hojo?

This is ok for me.

Iā€™ll take Chandragupta. Iā€™m fine with Hojo being in.

Iā€™m also O.K. w/ Hojo. Will look at the civs today b/t meetings and choose soon.

I would like to play Cyrus, please.

Whatā€™s everyone elseā€™s feeling on Hojo?

Wellā€¦ I think +5 combat strength on coastal and shallow water is big (and direct) advantage while playing on islands. There will be a lot of such tiles on Archipelago map, I guess

I felt that wasnā€™t enough of a bonus to qualify for banning (not a unique unit or a prod/gold/culture bonus) on the basis of no naval bonuses.

Iā€™ve been browsing the forum and came across your previous Archipelago game https://www.playyourdamnturn.com/game/012bc28c-6bf2-4fac-8e03-27aff16628c3

Isnā€™t that link a solid proof that Japan could/will win the game even with other 5 heavy ā€œnavalā€ (already banned here by you: Indonesia, Norway, Phoenicia, Maori, Australia) civs on exact map type we are going to play on?

I tend to agree with @kennyaā€™s point about Hojo as Iā€™m currently part of that game! But Iā€™m easy either way and currently waging a successful war against him in another similar game.
Iā€™ll pick shortly.

Iā€™ll go with Seondeok.

Since Iā€™m soliciting opinions here (and by implication will go with at least group consensus), all you have to say is you disagree  I was just explaining why I didnā€™t include Japan in the original ban list earlier in the discussion, not taking a position in the discussion now one way or the other.

But since you asked the question (and I would hope @Pete can corroborate), no I donā€™t think the Japan coastal combat bonus caused Hojo to overpower the other naval civs in that game  thatā€™s not the only other Archipelago game Iā€™ve started, thatā€™s the second of two archipelago games with the same players and the same naval-advantage civs. Stefanos (the Japanese player) is an exceptionally strong player, particularly in the early-game ā€“ I donā€™t care what bonuses you have, frigates lose against battleships. Of course, Iā€™m not familiar with exactly whatā€™s been happening in the game you linked to, as I was eliminated early on in that one.

I will say one other thing ā€“ this game has already developed into way more work than I signed up for, and Iā€™m more than a little irritated that players here didnā€™t seriously evaluate and discuss the original ban list earlier in the discussion. @kennya you of course werenā€™t in the game at that point, so I donā€™t mind that. Iā€™ll reroll the draft again since you have strong objections to Japan, in this case I donā€™t think the majority should rule due to the nature of the discussion.

Let me stay with Amanitore

Unfortunately that wouldnā€™t be particularly fair. Although Amanitore has not been dealt to any player in the final draft, other players choices from the 2nd draft have been, so please select from the your list of 3 from the final draft.

Yes, lots of Civs have combat advantages (America on home continent, England on foreign continents and so on) and every Civ has a unique unit. Some advantages play well in the early game and others in later game. As Iā€™ve said before, it can be fun to have a challenge and there are so many factors that result in success or failure including a bit of luck!

Thanks for your efforts @banman39

Notably Americaā€™s advantage applies to all units the entire game whereas Englandā€™s only applies to the unique Redcoat unit.

Iā€™ll play with Gorgo, please.
